How to achieve a keycap: Eden effect and Zen pond III

Jelly Key is proud to be the first group of craftsmen to introduce the Eden effect into their keycaps and is very grateful to everyone. It must be said that it was very encouraging for us to receive a lot of love and support from our valued customers for this special effect. It dates back to early 2018, the beginning of Jelly Key's journey to discover new effects that can express our unique expression theme.

The Eden effect did not happen overnight. It is the result of more than a dozen months of research and quest for the entire Jelly Key team with craftsmanship expertise and unwavering determination. Our team spent a lot of time creating harmonious effects and colors for each keycap, but nevertheless guaranteed the same shade. Each keycap has a unique effect and engraving not found on other keycaps. The color lines you can see in the finished product have undergone a process of trial and error through different deposition times, standby temperatures, and color fusion to create the Eden effect. This was all we needed to achieve the signature effect that Jelly Key originally created and bring it to you.

A few months later, in August 2018, we introduced the world to the first handcrafted keycap collection with a delicate embedding of the Eden effect. It took the name of Zen Pond, which has a spiritual theme centered around the carp, a symbolic fish species in Japan. The Zen Pond collection was inspired by the carp, a symbol of good luck, prosperity and good luck, but was later reborn as the Zen Pond keycap. Creating such a collection with Eden's magical effects and beautiful living gems like carp is exactly Jelly Key's incredible work. This theme created the Zen Pond Spacebar / Enter / Shift Artisan Keycap, Zen Pond II-A Story of Everything, and now the latest collection, Zen Pond III: Cherry Circle of Life, for the next generation in the series. It serves as a powerful base to keep making. Let's see how these cute babies were born

How small is it?

In this Zen Pond III, we divided the carp into 3 sizes of 6mm, 7.5mm and 9mm and made 6 carps in different positions. You don't have to worry about this small size, as you can see the lively details in the keycap, which is about the size of the tip of your little finger. In particular, the carp fins have highlights on the body, making them the most visible and lively, regardless of size. You can see the super cute carps with a rounded shape in a unique chibi style!

Difficult work to color the carp

Moving on to the formation of colors and effects, this is also a mysterious series that makes full use of "pouring pictures" that are a mixture of alcohol ink and resin. It conveys an abstract and random expression. The reaction of alcohol ink and resin has a virtual effect that may be used for a specific purpose in interior design. Its graceful liquid plays an important role in boosting your imagination. In this collection, we layered 3-5 layers of paint on each keycap to add thickness to the color so that it is clearly visible. More importantly, all of these tones are based on real carp, adding to the credibility of being genuine.

This was also the hardest part of making "Zen Pond III". The carp molds in this collection are much smaller than the previous Zen Pond series I and II, so it was difficult to color the fish and make it as energetic as possible. Needless to say, this series consisted entirely of cherry profiles, but the space for this profile was generally small, which made detail layout difficult.

Last but not least, the Jelly Key team is always trying to make the keycaps as authentic as possible. This means that we cannot guarantee that the color fluids in our designs will be exactly the same as the pictures posted on our website. But what's more exciting is that each keycap has its own unique and distinct fluid effect. The only thing they have in common is the color option. A single keycap has the same look as any other keycap and features its color lay-in print.
